Origin and background of the character
Created by cartoonist Jim Davis in 1978, Garfield is an American humour comic strip that has enjoyed phenomenal global success, holding the world record for the most widely published newspaper comic strip. The story centres on Garfield, a large, anthropomorphic orange cat who is brimming with cynicism, lazy, selfish, a great lover of lasagne and has a visceral aversion to Mondays. Living alongside his owner Jon Arbuckle and the naive dog Odie, Garfield nevertheless hides a tender heart, which he shows almost exclusively to Pooky, his beloved little brown teddy bear that he discovered at the back of a drawer. Pooky is his only secret confidant, whom he fiercely protects and with whom he likes to sleep for comfort. This Funko Pop! figurine captures this affectionate and iconic side of the cat with remarkable accuracy, making it ideal for rekindling nostalgia among fans of the comic strip.
