Artist’s background and career

Duff McKagan, whose full name is Michael Andrew McKagan, is an American musician from Seattle. Best known as a bassist, he grew up immersed in the local punk scene and played several instruments before moving to Los Angeles in the early 1980s.

He joined Guns N’ Roses in 1985, whilst the band was still forming. Alongside Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler, he helped shape the line-up that would go on to become iconic. The phrase ‘1985 Vintage’ refers specifically to this formative period, prior to the release of the band’s debut album.

In 1987, Guns N’ Roses released *Appetite for Destruction*. The album features several tracks that have since become classics and quickly established the band as one of the leading figures in late 1980s hard rock. Duff McKagan’s bass playing contributed to the band’s sound with an energetic, melodic style marked by his punk influences.

The musician went on to feature on the albums *G N’ R Lies*, *Use Your Illusion I*, *Use Your Illusion II* and *The Spaghetti Incident?*. He also pursued various projects outside the band, notably a solo career and collaborations with Velvet Revolver, Loaded and Neurotic Outsiders. After leaving Guns N’ Roses in 1997, he officially rejoined the band in 2016.
