Katniss Everdeen is the main heroine of The Hunger Games series, adapted from the novels by Suzanne Collins. Originally from District 12, she lives in an authoritarian society controlled by the Capitol and learns to hunt at a very young age to help her family survive.
Her fate takes a dramatic turn when she volunteers to take her younger sister Prim’s place in the 74th Hunger Games, a televised competition in which teenagers from the various districts must fight to the death until only one survivor remains.
Thanks to her courage, her survival instinct and her refusal to submit completely to the Capitol’s rules, Katniss gradually becomes much more than just a winner of the Games. She becomes a symbol of hope for the oppressed districts.
