Origin and background of the character

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable is set in the Japanese town of Morioh. Josuke Higashikata and his allies face off against several Stand users there before discovering the existence of a serial killer who has been hiding amongst the town’s inhabitants for years.

Kosaku Kawajiri was originally an ordinary salaryman, husband to Shinobu and father to Hayato Kawajiri. To escape his pursuers and preserve his way of life, Yoshikage Kira kills him and then has his own face altered so that he can take Kosaku’s place within the Kawajiri family.

Under this new identity, Kira attempts to blend into a normal family life. However, his unusual behaviour attracts the attention of Hayato, whose suspicions prove crucial in the arc’s final confrontation. This arc therefore represents one of the most tense and psychologically charged periods in *Diamond is Unbreakable*.

The Gathering of RIVALS collection features this version as the portrayal of the antagonist in Part 4. The choice of the Kosaku Kawajiri appearance serves to highlight a less familiar facet of Yoshikage Kira, centred on concealment, manipulation and the hidden threat lurking behind an ordinary façade.
