Origin and character lore

Ryomen Sukuna is a legendary figure in the world of exorcism, known as the King of Plagues. Following his disappearance, his power remains sealed within twenty mummified fingers, which have become special-class cursed objects. Unable to be destroyed by exorcists, these fragments attract curses and pose a major threat to the human world.

Sukuna is reincarnated in the modern era when Yuji Itadori swallows one of his fingers in order to save his classmates. The young exorcist proves capable of containing his poison and retaining control of his body, an ability described as exceptionally rare. Sukuna, however, remains present within him and seeks to take every opportunity to regain his freedom and his full power.

Cruel, arrogant and driven by an absolute belief in strength, Sukuna shows little interest in human lives. His mastery of occult energy, his cutting techniques and his ability to expand his territory make him one of the most dangerous entities in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe.
