Character background and lore

Ryomen Sukuna is one of the most formidable figures in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe and bears the title of King of Plagues.

The anime’s official website states that Sukuna already existed over a thousand years ago, during a period considered to be the golden age of exorcism. The exorcists of that era joined forces in an attempt to defeat him, but failed.

Even after his death, his power did not fade. His body became a series ofcursed objects, notably his fingers, capable of attracting and strengthening the curses that came near them.

Centuries later, Yuji Itadori swallows one of these fingers and becomes Sukuna’s vessel. Contrary to what one might expect, however, Yuji retains control of his own body most of the time, forcing Sukuna to wait for opportunities to gain the upper hand.

Sukuna has an extremely arrogant and cruel personality. He shows virtually no respect for human life and regards the majority of his opponents as insignificant.

His power lies notably in his extremely precise slashing attacks, as well as his famous Domain Expansion, Malevolent Shrine / Fukuma Mizushi, one of the most formidable techniques featured in the series. Indeed, the official website directly uses this Domain Expansion to depict Sukuna in several official merchandise items.

The “Fuga” version of this figurine highlights another spectacular facet of his arsenal: his ability to generate and project powerful flames after uttering the command 「開」, which literally means “open”.
