Ma Chao is a historical figure from the late Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period. He also became a famous character in the Chinese historical novel *Romance of the Three Kingdoms*, in which he is described as a particularly talented and courageous warrior.

Associated with the Kingdom of Shu, Ma Chao is traditionally depicted as a swift and formidable fighter, often armed with a long spear. This image of an elite horseman and martial general explains why he features regularly in Asian popular culture, particularly in video games, manga, collectible figures and science fiction settings inspired by Chinese history.

Motor Nuclear takes this historical figure and transforms him into a true mechanical warrior, whilst retaining certain visual elements associated with his traditional image: elaborate armour, a long melee weapon and a martial stance.
