Origin and symbolism (Lore)

Naruto Uzumaki is the main character in the manga created by Masashi Kishimoto. Initially regarded as a disruptive pupil and marginalised by the inhabitants of Konoha, he aspires to become Hokage in order to gain their recognition and protect his village.

His childhood is marked by the presence of Kyûbi, the Nine-Tailed Fox sealed within him shortly after his birth. This situation causes the inhabitants of the Hidden Leaf Village to mistrust him, though Naruto does not immediately understand the reason for their behaviour.

After graduating from the Ninja Academy, Naruto joins Team 7 alongside Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno, under the leadership of Kakashi Hatake. He then begins his journey as a true ninja and gradually develops his techniques, his sense of duty and his ability to forge bonds with others.

The colour orange becomes one of the most recognisable elements of his visual identity. Vibrant and immediately noticeable, it reflects his energetic, spontaneous temperament and his determination to attract attention.

The name Uzumaki means, amongst other things, ‘spiral’ or ‘whirlwind’. This motif appears regularly in the series and can be found in the Uzumaki clan’s emblem as well as in various visual elements associated with Naruto.

The symbol of Konoha, often seen on his headband, depicts a stylised leaf extending into a spiral. It signifies his affiliation with the Hidden Leaf Village and symbolises the bonds he forges with its inhabitants and his companions.

Through his trials, Naruto evolves from a young, outcast ninja into a recognised hero, before realising his dream of becoming the Seventh Hokage. His journey is built on perseverance, loyalty and his steadfast refusal to abandon those he considers his loved ones.
