Character background and lore

Kakuzu is a former ninja from the village of Takigakure who became a member of Akatsuki. He forms a particularly dangerous duo with Hidan, their partnership relying in particular on their exceptional ability to survive normally fatal injuries.

Kakuzu’s body is criss-crossed with mysterious black threads that allow him to stitch up his wounds, detach certain parts of his body and even incorporate the hearts of his opponents. Thanks to this technique, he can possess several hearts simultaneously and considerably prolong his own existence.

These additional hearts also allow him to utilise multiple types of chakra, giving rise to powerful elemental attacks. Kakuzu can thus combine different techniques and take on multiple opponents with great versatility.

Obsessed with money and rewards, he readily accepts lucrative missions and takes a particular interest in the bounties placed on the heads of certain ninjas. His clash with Kakashi Hatake, Shikamaru Nara, Naruto Uzumaki and their allies is one of the most memorable battles in Naruto Shippuden.
