Character background and lore

Sasori, nicknamed Sasori of the Red Sands, is a ninja from the Hidden Village of Suna and a member of the Akatsuki criminal organisation in Naruto Shippuden.

A master puppeteer, he transforms his art into a particularly dangerous combat technique. Sasori is capable of controlling numerous puppets simultaneously and makes use of poisoned weapons, concealed mechanisms and human bodies transformed into puppets.

His obsession with permanence and immortality drives him to alter his own body, gradually replacing large parts of it with artificial components. This philosophy stands in direct contrast to that of his partner Deidara, who, on the contrary, regards art as something ephemeral.

Sasori plays a major role at the start of Naruto Shippuden, particularly during the mission to rescue Gaara. His clash with Sakura Haruno and Chiyo reveals the full extent of his techniques as well as a significant part of his past.
