Character background and lore

Bartolomeo is the captain of the Barto Club and one of the pirates belonging to the generation nicknamed the Worst Generation, which brings together several particularly promising young captains who have appeared throughout the history of ONE PIECE.

Recognisable by his green hair, fangs and deliberately provocative behaviour, he has a particularly unsettling reputation amongst the general public. Yet behind this aggressive façade lies an absolutely devoted admirer of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew.

His admiration began after witnessing one of Luffy’s exploits. From that moment on, Bartolomeo has been a devoted fan of the Mugiwara captain, to the point of knowing numerous details about his adventures and those of his crew.

Bartolomeo possesses the powers of the Bari Bari no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows him to create extremely resilient barriers. These defences can be used to block attacks, protect his allies or even take on different forms depending on the needs of the battle.

He plays an important role during the Dressrosa arc, where he takes part in the tournament held at the Corrida Colosseum. Initially portrayed as a hostile and unpredictable pirate, he quickly reveals his boundless admiration for Luffy.

Following the events in Dressrosa, Bartolomeo becomes one of the captains associated with the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, an alliance bringing together several crews who have chosen to support Luffy of their own accord.
