Character background and lore

Lucky Roux is one of the officers of the Roux Crew and also serves as the cook. Always seen with a piece of meat in hand, he is described as a big eater and one of the crew’s main entertainers. His cheerful demeanour contributes to the relaxed and festive atmosphere that usually surrounds Shanks and his companions.

He is one of the pirates present in the village of Fuchsia during Monkey D. Luffy’s childhood. Along with Shanks, Ben Beckman and Yasopp, he helps to give the young boy an image of piracy based on freedom, camaraderie and a taste for adventure.

Lucky Roux demonstrates very early on, however, that this good humour should not be mistaken for weakness. When mountain bandits threaten Shanks and his crew, he intervenes immediately and shoots one of the attackers, illustrating the rule upheld by the Roux Pirates: joking stops the moment a comrade is threatened.

As an officer in a crew commanded by one of the Four Emperors, Lucky Roux is regarded as a particularly dangerous fighter, even though the full extent of his abilities remains shrouded in mystery for a long time.
