Only son of the legendary King of Pirates Gol D. Roger and Portgas D. Rouge, Portgas D. Ace (born Gol D. Ace) grew up under the tutelage of Monkey D. Garp, who entrusted him to the Dadan family. Raised alongside Monkey D. Luffy and Sabo, he formed an unbreakable pact of brotherhood with them over a cup of sake. Known by the pseudonym "Ace with the Burning Fists", he owes his reputation to his mastery of the Pyro-Fruit(Mera Mera no Mi), a Logia demon fruit that allows him to manipulate and transform himself into fire at will. He became commander of the second fleet of Whitebeard's Crew, whom he considers his true father, and sailed the seas with pride until he was captured by Blackbeard. His public execution in Marineford sparked a war at the top, during which he heroically sacrificed himself to protect his younger brother Luffy from a deadly attack by Admiral Akainu.
