Origin and background of the mascot

Hooper is the official mascot of the Detroit Pistons. He takes the form of a horse, a choice directly linked to Detroit’s automotive history and the mechanical power evoked by the name ‘Pistons’. The franchise adopted him in 1996, at a time when its visual identity also featured a horse’s head surrounded by flames.
