Origin and background of the item (Lore)

In Up, the ‘My Adventure Book’ notebook originally belongs to Ellie. As a child, she uses it to record her dreams of exploration and her admiration for the adventurer Charles Muntz. She later shows the book to Carl and confides in him her plan to one day visit Paradise Falls in South America.

After their marriage, Carl and Ellie gradually fill the album with memories of their life together. Their big journey is regularly postponed by the difficulties of everyday life, but their home, their activities and the moments they share become a real adventure in their own right.

After Ellie’s death, Carl believes for a long time that he has failed to keep his promise. However, he discovers that she has filled the pages once reserved for Paradise Falls with photographs of their life together. Her final message encourages him to embark on a new adventure rather than remain trapped in the past.

The book thus becomes one of the film’s most moving symbols. It represents the dreams of youth, the memory of a life shared, and the idea that an adventure is not necessarily limited to a faraway destination.
