Character background and lore

Jude Duarte is the central heroine of Holly Black’s *The Folk of the Air* trilogy, which begins with *The Cruel Prince* and concludes with *The Queen of Nothing*. A human raised in the realm of Faerie, she grows up amongst immortal creatures who often regard humans as inferior beings.

Refusing to remain vulnerable in this dangerous environment, Jude develops significant skills in combat, strategy and political manoeuvring. Her ambition and her ability to navigate the intrigues of the Faerie court gradually lead her into the heart of the kingdom’s power struggles.
