Origin and background of the character
Billy is the iconic ventriloquist’s dummy from the horror-thriller film series *Saw*, created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell in 2004. In the film universe, this mechanical puppet with a white face, red spirals on its cheeks and dark eyes is used by the serial killer John Kramer, alias ‘Jigsaw’ (The Puzzle Killer). Jigsaw uses this puppet to address his victims via video recordings. It is through Billy’s voice that he explains the rules of the complex and deadly traps he devises, uttering the franchise’s iconic line: ‘Let the games begin’.
