Alessa Gillespie is a key character in the Silent Hill survival horror video game franchise, originally developed by Team Silent and published by Konami. Historically, she is the trigger and central pillar of the saga's occult mythology, particularly in the first opus from 1999 and in Silent Hill 3. Gifted with powerful and terrifying psychic powers from birth, Alessa was sacrificed and immolated by her own mother, Dahlia Gillespie, leader of the extremist religious cult known as 'The Order'. The purpose of this macabre ritual was to use the girl's body as a vessel to give birth to the malevolent deity worshipped by the cult. Surviving her severe burns thanks to her abilities and plunged into permanent agony, Alessa's suffering and resentment fragmented her soul and projected her nightmares into reality, transforming the town of Silent Hill into a hazy, horrific alternate dimension inhabited by monsters.
