Character background and lore

Padmé Amidala is a leader from Naboo, elected Queen of her planet whilst still very young. After her reign ended, she continued her political commitment by becoming a Senator and resolutely championed peace, democracy and diplomacy within the Galactic Republic.

In *Attack of the Clones*, Padmé becomes the target of several assassination attempts due to her opposition to the creation of an army for the Republic. Placed under the protection of Anakin Skywalker, she then travels with him to Geonosis to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi, who had been captured after uncovering the Separatists’ military preparations.

Padmé and Anakin are in turn captured after making their way through a dangerous droid factory. Sentenced to death in the Geonosis arena, they manage to fend off the creatures sent against them before the arrival of the Jedi and the clone army. This battle marks the official start of the Clone Wars.

Brave and skilled with a blaster, Padmé does not confine herself to her political role. She takes a direct part in the fighting and remains one of the Republic’s key figures, whilst her secret relationship with Anakin will have major consequences for the future of the galaxy.
