Origin and character lore

The Demogorgon is one of the first major supernatural creatures to be discovered in the Stranger Things universe. It originates from the Upside Down, a dark and hostile parallel dimension that mirrors the real world whilst being overrun by organic vegetation and dangerous life forms.

The creature appears as early as the first series and plays a central role in the disappearance of Will Byers, as well as in the events that befall the town of Hawkins. Capable of moving between dimensions, the Demogorgon hunts its victims with great aggression.

Its appearance became instantly iconic, particularly thanks to its faceless head, which opens like a flower made up of several lobes filled with teeth. This design makes it one of the most recognisable creatures in the series.
