Origin and character background (Lore)

Karen Wheeler is the mother of Mike, Nancy and Holly Wheeler in Stranger Things. She lives in Hawkins, Indiana, and initially comes across as a parent who is relatively detached from the supernatural events affecting her children.

As the series progresses, Karen gradually becomes more aware of the dangers surrounding Hawkins and her family. Although she remains largely in the dark about the secrets surrounding Eleven, the laboratory and the Upside Down for a long time, she plays an important role in the Wheelers’ daily lives.

The Demogorgon, meanwhile, is one of the first major supernatural threats to emerge in the series. Hailing from the Upside Down, it is an extremely aggressive predatory creature, capable of travelling between dimensions and hunting down its victims in Hawkins.

Its appearance – with a faceless head that splits into several lobes filled with teeth – has become iconic in *Stranger Things*. This box set thus brings together two very different facets of the series: family life in Hawkins and the supernatural horror from the Upside Down.
