Character background and lore

Ryu is one of the founding characters of Capcom’s Street Fighter series and one of the most recognisable figures in the fighting game genre. A wandering warrior wholly devoted to his training, he travels the world in search of opponents capable of pushing him to his limits and helping him progress on the path to becoming a true fighter.

In Street Fighter II, Ryu established himself as one of the franchise’s central figures with his white kimono, headband and fighting style inspired by Japanese martial arts. His iconic moves, such as the Hadoken, the Shoryuken and the Tatsumaki Senpukyaku, have become inextricably linked to the series’ identity.
