Character’s origin and universe

*The Apothecary’s Notebooks* is a series blending investigation, palace intrigue, traditional medicine and court mysteries. The story follows Maomao, a young apothecary who is intelligent, curious and particularly skilled at analysing poisons, remedies and symptoms.

After being drawn, against her will, into the world of the imperial palace, Maomao uses her medical knowledge and keen powers of observation to solve complex cases. Her scientific mind, her lack of flattery and her fascination with toxic substances make her instantly recognisable.

The character also stands out for the contrast between her unassuming appearance and her formidable intelligence. Faced with the intrigues of the court, Maomao remains methodical, pragmatic and often ironic, which creates a strong dynamic with Jinshi and the other characters in the palace.
