Character origin and lore

Wheeljack is one of the original Autobots from the Generation 1 Transformers series. He is distinguished less by brute strength than by his talents as a scientist, inventor and engineer, putting his technical skills to work for the Autobots. Hasbro officially describes him as a naturally curious Autobot and a mechanical engineer, whilst products inspired by the 1986 film portray him as the team’s scientist and inventor.

Like many Transformers, Wheeljack has an alternate mode. In his classic incarnation, he transforms into a car, and Hasbro retains this feature in its modern Generation 1-inspired figures. His role as an inventor and his highly technical aesthetic make him one of the characters traditionally associated with the equipment, experiments and mechanical solutions developed to aid the Autobots in their fight against the Decepticons.

In *The Transformers: The Movie*, Wheeljack helps defend the Autobots against the Decepticons during the Battle of Autobot City. Hasbro explicitly describes him as fighting valiantly during this clash, one of the central sequences of the 1986 film.
