Meet Mirage, the Autobot specialising in espionage and diversion, with this Funko POP! Retro Toys No. 182 figure. Funko has adapted the character’s classic design to the signature proportions of the POP! range, resulting in a vinyl figure approximately 11.2 cm tall.

The design recreates Mirage’s Generation 1 appearance in his robot form, featuring a predominantly white and blue colour scheme, red detailing and the Autobot emblem. His aesthetic directly references his alternate mode as a racing car, one of the visual traits that sets the character apart amongst the classic Autobots. Hasbro describes Mirage as an Autobot sergeant and spy, whilst his modern versions retain an alternate mode inspired by his G1 vehicle.

Character origin and backstory (Lore)

Mirage is one of the classic Autobots from the first generation of Transformers. Hasbro presents him as a spy and sergeant in the Autobot army, a role that suits his skills, which prioritise discretion, reconnaissance and deception rather than direct confrontation. In his Generation 1-inspired incarnations, he also retains his transformation into a racing car.

In the original animated continuity, Mirage is particularly known for his technology enabling him to create holographic illusions and render himself invisible for short periods. These abilities make him a specialist in infiltration, capable of throwing the Decepticons off the scent, but his independent nature sometimes leads some of his Autobot comrades to view him with suspicion.

One of his best-known storylines features Cliffjumper, who wrongly suspects Mirage of being a traitor after discovering a Decepticon base in an area he had previously explored. Mirage is subsequently captured and manipulated by Bombshell, before his innocence and loyalty to the Autobots are finally proven.

Although this POP! figure is being released to mark the 40th anniversary of *The Transformers: The Movie*, Mirage is a special case: he does not actually appear on screen in the final cut of the 1986 film. A scene planned at the storyboard stage was intended to show him fighting Bombshell during the battle for Autobot City before being attacked by Megatron, but this sequence was cut. Nevertheless, Funko officially includes this POP! No. 182 in its collection commemorating the film’s 40th anniversary.
