Character background and universe (Lore)

Megatron is the founder and leader of the Decepticons, a faction of Cybertronians seeking to impose their rule over Cybertron and, depending on the various Transformers continuities, over the entire universe. A formidable military strategist, he is characterised by his ambition, brutality and determination to achieve absolute power.

He is waging a protracted war against the Autobots led by Optimus Prime. Their conflict is rooted in two opposing visions: Optimus champions freedom and coexistence, whilst Megatron regards force and domination as the only means of establishing a new order.

His most recognisable weapon is the fusion cannon mounted on his right arm. This fires powerful bursts of concentrated energy and is one of the character’s most iconic visual symbols.

Depending on the version of the Transformers universe, Megatron can transform into a weapon, a tank, a Cybertronian vehicle or an aircraft. Despite these variations, he almost always remains Optimus Prime’s arch-rival and one of the main threats to the Autobots and the planet Cybertron.
