Around the Harry Potter books
While the first novel mainly sets the scene for the magical world of Harry Potter, the plot becomes more and more exciting and complex as the books go on, dealing with subjects such as free will and death.
The first book of this long series was published in 1997, entitled "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". Since then, the books have grown in popularity to the point where J.K Rowling, the author of the books, is now one of the most widely read British authors in the world alongside William Shakespeare and Agatha Christie.
The success of the Harry Potter books quickly became global, so much so that by February 2018, more than 500 million copies had been sold and translated into 80 languages, making Harry Potter the best-selling saga in the history of literature.
The story of Harry Potter at Philosopher's Stone
Over the course of the books, we see Harry, along with his friends Hermione and Ron, grow into a young adult capable of great feats and often surviving perilous situations. In this British society of the 1990s, an evil persists: his name is Voldemort. A very powerful wizard who uses dark magic to try to take power.
The main character grows up in a world without magic, surrounded by what wizards call 'muggles', people without magic.
Gradually, the young man begins to discover his extraordinary skills and understands that he is not in the right place, living with his uncle, aunt and cousin, his parents both decided, the young man has an unhappy childhood. He grows up in a family that does not give him any affection or consideration.
His foster family treats him like a stooge, giving him a room under the stairs. Harry is only good for the Dursleys to do chores and serve the whims of his cousin.
At the dawn of his teenage years, the young orphan is called to Hogwarts to study as a young wizard, the boy discovers the cause of his parents' fateful fate and the legacy they left him.
Lily and James Potter, Harry's parents, died at the hands of Voldemort when Harry was just a baby. Miraculously, Harry survived the dark wizard's attack thanks to a powerful protection spell that Lily cast on her child before being murdered. The powerful wizard's death spell then turns on him and destroys him, leaving the child unharmed with only a lightning scar on his forehead.
Through this miracle, Harry becomes incredibly famous in the wizarding world, as everyone knows the story of the boy who survived Voldemort's clutches.
The main plot
Each book takes place during the course of a school year at Hogwarts, so the story takes place throughout Harry and his friends' time at school.
During his seven years of study, Harry will witness the return of the notorious dark wizard Voldemort and his second rise to power with his followers, the Death Eaters. Harry will be confronted several times with dangerous situations where he will have to fight Voldemort, sometimes alone, sometimes with the help of his friends, until the final confrontation in the seventh and last volume.
