Character background and lore

Daiwa Scarlet is one of the characters from Uma Musume: Pretty Derby, a franchise in which famous Japanese racehorses are reimagined as young athletes known as Uma Musume. These athletes train to compete in races whilst also pursuing careers on stage.

Daiwa Scarlet is characterised by her proud, competitive and extremely determined nature. She constantly strives to take first place and finds it hard to accept being overtaken, which fuels several rivalries within the series.

Her character is inspired by the real-life Japanese racehorse Daiwa Scarlet, known for her remarkable consistency and top-level performances. Like many Uma Musume, her design and certain aspects of her personality draw on references to the career of her real-life namesake.

Thanks to her strong character, her elegance and her constant determination to be the best, Daiwa Scarlet has become one of the most beloved figures in the Uma Musume: Pretty Derby universe.
