Origin and universe of the character
Released in 1992 and directed by David Fincher, the horror sci-fi film Alien 3 marks a major aesthetic and narrative turning point for the franchise. The plot unfolds on Fiorina-161, a bleak and isolated prison planet inhabited by a community of fanatical male inmates. After the crash of Ellen Ripley’s escape pod, a Facehugger manages to infect an animal (a dog or an ox, depending on the edit). This unprecedented incubation gives rise to a new mutation of the creature: the Runner (sometimes called the Dog Alien). Smaller, sleeker and far more agile than the traditional Xenomorph, this monster moves mainly on all fours at phenomenal speed and uses narrow ducts to methodically hunt down prisoners without firearms. This large-format version perfectly captures the danger and fluid biomechanical anatomy of this nightmarish beast.
