Immerse yourself in the dark world of Berserk with this articulated figure of Guts clad in the Berserker Armour, from Bandai Tamashii Nations’ S.H.Figuarts range. Standing approximately 16 cm tall, it recreates the Black Warrior in one of his most fearsome forms and includes a wide selection of weapons and interchangeable parts.

The armour is sculpted with its dark plates, numerous spikes and aggressive lines that follow the character’s musculature. Certain areas are hand-painted to enhance the shadows, metallic effects and texture of the armour. The Mark of Sacrifice on the back of his neck, as well as the amulet placed there by Schierke, are also faithfully reproduced.

The figure features a highly articulated structure, allowing you to recreate the violent and powerful poses characteristic of Guts. His fabric cape is printed to reproduce its texture and incorporates metal wires, enabling it to be shaped in different ways depending on the scene being depicted.

Guts is accompanied by his immense Dragon Slayer sword, the size of which rivals that of the character himself. The set also contains his crossbow, his arm cannon in firing position, a knife and a Beherit. Two pairs of hands and two additional faces — one with a screaming expression and another with clenched teeth — allow for a variety of combat scenes.

This figure is aimed at collectors wishing to recreate the manga’s battles whilst retaining great freedom in staging the scenes. Bandai states that it is made from PVC, ABS and fabric, and is recommended for ages 15 and over.

Character background and lore

Guts is the protagonist of Berserk, the dark fantasy series created by Kentaro Miura. A warrior scarred by a life of battle and tragedy, he wields the Dragon Slayer, a colossal sword capable of slaying both soldiers and supernatural creatures. Following the events of the Eclipse, he pursues Griffith and the Apostles whilst protecting Casca and the companions who gradually join him on his journey. The world of Berserk blends swords, magic and monsters around his particularly violent quest.

The Berserker Armour is given to Guts after his encounter with the sorceress Flora. It suppresses the natural mechanisms that normally limit the human body, allowing the wearer to continue fighting despite pain, fractures and injuries. It can even hold his broken bones in place, though without actually healing the damage sustained. Using it therefore exposes Guts to serious injuries and potentially fatal blood loss.

The armour also amplifies his anger and risks delivering him entirely into the clutches of the Beast of Darkness, the manifestation of his most violent impulses. His helmet then takes on an elongated, animal-like shape reflecting this bestial state. Schierke’s intervention is often necessary to reach his mind and prevent him from losing control for good.

This figurine thus represents one of Guts’s central contradictions: the Berserker Armour gives him the power he needs to protect his loved ones and face monstrous enemies, but every time he uses it, it further threatens his body, his senses and his humanity.
