Origin and world of the character
The plot of the manga and animated adaptation Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba), created by Koyoharu Gotouge, takes place in Japan during the Taishō era. The story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a young man who becomes a demon slayer after the massacre of his family and the transformation of his sister Nezuko into a demonic creature. Inosuke Hashibira is Tanjiro's travelling and fighting companion. Raised by wild boars in the mountains, he has developed an instinctive and personal fighting style known as the "Breath of the Beast", which he practises by wielding two swords with chipped blades. His visual style is characterised by the constant wearing of a hollowed-out boar's head mask concealing his face. The "Sumi-ink" graphic treatment of this edition is inspired by traditional Japanese calligraphic aesthetics in Indian ink (Sumi-e), recalling the visual effects used in the series' combat animations.
