Evangelion Provisional Unit-05 Model — Rebuild of Evangelion — MODEROID — 16 cm

Recreate one of the most unusual Evangelions in the series with this MODEROID model of the Evangelion Provisional Unit-05. Produced by Good Smile Company, it is based on the experimental unit piloted by Mari Illustrious Makinami in Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. Once assembled, the model stands approximately 16 cm tall and measures nearly 27 cm in length due to its quadrupedal configuration and imposing mechanical legs.

Unit-05 differs radically from traditional humanoid Evangelions. Its green and white torso is mounted on a mechanical frame featuring four long legs ending in wheels, whilst its right arm holds a simplified and provisionally restored version of the Spear of Longinus. This unusual silhouette, designed for operations carried out at the Bethany base, is faithfully reproduced in Kenichi Miyashita’s sculpture.

The model features numerous joints, allowing the orientation of the body, limbs and various mechanical components to be adjusted. Interchangeable head parts allow the Evangelion to be displayed with its mouth open or closed. The Spear of Longinus can be attached to or removed from the right arm, whilst the pantographs on the shoulders are also removable.

The various parts are moulded in several colours, with transparent elements and some parts pre-painted. Stickers and decals are also provided to reproduce the markings seen on screen. The model can thus be made to look very similar to the one in the film after a simple assembly, whilst still allowing modellers the option to add paint, panel lining and weathering effects.

Origin and background of the unit (Lore)

The Evangelion Provisional Unit-05 is an experimental unit built to operate at Bethany Base, an isolated facility situated in a polar region. Unlike conventional humanoid Evas, it utilises a predominantly mechanical structure for its lower body, featuring four long legs fitted with wheels. This unique design restricts its movement to certain types of infrastructure, but allows it to move swiftly through the base’s tunnels.

The unit is piloted by Mari Illustrious Makinami during its first appearance in Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. Mari is an energetic and unpredictable pilot who seems to take real pleasure in controlling an Evangelion, even when combat conditions become extremely dangerous.

Unit-05 confronts the Third Angel after its escape from the Bethany base. Its right arm is equipped with a simplified Spear of Longinus, whilst the drills fitted beneath its body enable it to attack the creature directly. Despite the power of its equipment, the unit remains a prototype, designed with several technical limitations and reduced operational range.

When the Angel severely damages the Evangelion, Mari triggers its self-destruct mechanism to eliminate the threat. She manages to eject before the explosion, bringing the Unit-05’s very short operational career to an end. This spectacular intervention introduces Mari to the saga and immediately establishes her daring nature.

Unit-05’s unique silhouette, combining an artificial organism, armour and mechanical limbs, makes it one of the most distinctive designs in *Rebuild of Evangelion*. The various options offered by this model allow you to accurately recreate the equipment used during its sole mission.
