Origin and world of the character (Lore)

Created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers, Groot is a Floral Colossus from Planet X. After heroically sacrificing himself to save his friends during the battle of Xandar, his faithful companion Rocket Raccoon retrieves a small twig from his body and lovingly replants it in a pot. Against all the odds, the shoot springs to life, giving rise to a miniature, facetious version of the creature.
