Character background and lore

Yuji Itadori is a secondary school pupil with physical abilities far superior to those of an ordinary human. His life is turned upside down when he swallows one of Ryomen Sukuna’s fingers, a cursed artefact containing a fraction of the power of the legendary King of Plagues.

Yuji thus becomes Sukuna’s vessel. Although he is sentenced to death due to the danger he poses, Satoru Gojo secures a reprieve so that he can locate and absorb the other fingers of the Calamity. The aim is to gather all of Sukuna’s essence into a single body before eliminating him once and for all.

Trained at the Tokyo Exorcism School, Yuji learns to control his occult energy and fights alongside Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki. His fighting style relies mainly on his exceptional physical strength, his reflexes and his ability to enhance his strikes with occult energy. In particular, he develops the Divergent Fist and manages to unleash the Black Ray, a distortion of space caused when the energy strikes almost simultaneously with a physical attack.

Following the events in Shibuya, Yuji is plagued by deep guilt over the destruction wrought by Sukuna whilst he was in control of his body. Despite this anguish, he continues to fight in order to save those who can still be reached and to fulfil the responsibilities of his role as a vessel.

The Extermination Game is a deadly competition organised by Kenjaku in several colonies isolated by barriers. Exorcists, Awakened Technique users and reincarnated sorcerers must face off against one another to earn points and alter certain rules of the game.

Yuji enters a colony with the aim of finding Hiromi Higuruma and using his points to add a rule that might save the participants. He must then face particularly dangerous opponents whilst defending his concept of justice and the value of every human life.

The pose chosen for this figurine reflects this more sombre period in his journey. His focused gaze, his hands ready for battle and his sombre attire portray a Yuji who is no longer fighting merely to defeat a scourge, but to keep moving forward despite the weight of his losses and his responsibilities.
