Character background and lore

Derpy Tiger is a supernatural blue tiger from the demon world. Despite his large size, fangs and potentially intimidating appearance, he is best known for his clumsy behaviour, exaggerated smile and affectionate personality. He initially accompanied Jinu before becoming a much-loved mascot of HUNTR/X.

He regularly travels with Sussie Bird, a strange six-eyed bird tasked with accompanying him and looking after him during their journeys between the demon world and the human world. Their duo brings a significant element of humour to the story.

Their appearance is inspired by traditional Korean folk paintings, which typically depict a tiger and a magpie. In these works, the tiger often adopts a deliberately clumsy or comical expression, whilst the bird plays the role of a more attentive observer. This influence explains the contrast between Derpy’s supernatural nature and his endearing demeanour.
