Origin and character lore

Derpy Tiger is a supernatural creature taking the form of a large blue tiger. Despite its size and fangs, it is characterised by its clumsy behaviour, exaggerated expressions and affectionate nature. It initially accompanied Jinu before becoming a much-loved mascot of HUNTR/X.

Derpy regularly travels with Sussie Bird, a strange six-eyed bird who looks after him during their missions. Together, they act as messengers between the demon world and the human world, whilst adding a significant element of humour to the story.

Their appearance is inspired by Korean folk paintings, which traditionally pair a tiger with a magpie. In these depictions, the tiger often has a deliberately naive or comical expression, whilst the bird takes on the role of a more attentive observer. This influence explains Derpy Tiger’s unique and endearing appearance.
