Soshiro Hoshina is the vice-captain of the third unit of the Kaijus Defence Force. Descended from a historic line of samurai, he distinguishes himself from his peers by abandoning heavy firearms in favour of an ultra-fast hand-to-hand combat style based on the wielding of two swords, excelling particularly against medium-sized monsters. Kaiju No. 10 is an artificially created humanoid entity with colossal power and an obsessive fighting spirit. After leading the destructive assault on the Tachikawa base and fighting a memorable duel to the death with Hoshina, the creature is captured. Against all odds, No. 10 agrees to be converted into a combat weapon on the sole condition that it is wielded exclusively by Hoshina, sealing a unique and explosive forced alliance in which the weapon and its bearer spend their time provoking each other.
