Marin is the main figure. He is depicted with his orange body criss-crossed by broad white stripes edged in black, his fins spread out and an attentive expression on his face. His large eyes and slightly forward-leaning posture reflect his cautious nature and constant concern for his son’s safety.

Nemo accompanies him in the form of a small ‘Buddy’ figurine. Placed close to his father, he features the same orange, white and black colouring, but in a significantly smaller size. Origin and character lore

Marin is a clownfish living in an anemone near the Great Barrier Reef. After the death of his partner Corail and the loss of almost all their eggs during an attack by a barracuda, he raises his sole surviving son, Nemo, on his own.

This traumatic experience has made Marin extremely overprotective. He is constantly trying to avoid even the slightest danger and finds it very difficult to let Nemo discover the world for himself. His anxiety is heightened by his son’s small fin, which he sees as a weakness that could expose him to numerous risks.

Nemo, on the other hand, is curious, enthusiastic and keen to prove that he can fend for himself. On his first day at school, he deliberately swims away from the coral reef to show his courage. He is then captured by a diver and taken to a dental surgery aquarium in Sydney.

Marin immediately sets out to cross the ocean to find him. He is accompanied by Dory, a blue surgeonfish suffering from short-term memory loss. Their journey confronts them with several dangers, including sharks, jellyfish, a whale and powerful ocean currents.

Meanwhile, Nemo tries to escape from the aquarium with the help of Gill and the other members of the ‘tank gang’. The trials they face whilst apart help both father and son to grow: Nemo gains confidence, whilst Marin gradually learns to trust him.

Their reunion not only brings the journey to an end; it also profoundly transforms their relationship. Marin remains a caring father, but is more accepting of Nemo’s independence, whilst Nemo gains a better understanding of the source of his father’s worries.

This POP! & Buddy edition directly captures this relationship. Marin is depicted as the primary protective figure, whilst Nemo’s small size emphasises his youth without diminishing his importance. Presented together in a single set, the two characters evoke their separation, their adventure and the family bond that lies at the heart of the film.
