Origin and background of the characters
Grosminet (Sylvester the Cat) and Titi (Tweety the Canary) are two major fictional characters created by Warner Bros. Studios in the 1940s for the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of animated short films. The recurring plot of their joint appearances is based on slapstick comedy: Grosminet, a black-and-white cat with a red nose, devises complex and repeated schemes to capture and eat Titi, a small yellow canary who appears naive but is in fact deeply cunning. Protected by his cage, by the watchful eye of his owner Granny, or by the bulldog Hector, Tweety consistently manages to thwart the cat’s attempts, leading the latter into a series of comical falls and failures.
