Character background and lore

Chandra Nalaar is a human Planeswalker capable of creating, controlling and projecting fire. Impulsive, independent and extremely powerful, she often prefers to act immediately rather than spend too much time on preparation. Her magic directly reflects her personality: intense, spectacular and difficult to contain.

Chandra hails from Kaladesh, a plane dominated by invention, machinery and the use of ether as an energy source. Her parents are part of an underground network that distributes this precious resource to inventors denied official access by the consular authorities. Unable to fully fit into such a heavily regulated society, Chandra discovered her natural affinity for fire at a very young age.

The crackdown on her family and the uncontrolled manifestation of her powers cause her Planeswalker spark to ignite. This ability allows her to travel between the various planes of the Multiverse and draws her into conflicts far greater than those of her home world.

During her travels, Chandra joins forces with several other Planeswalkers, including Gideon Jura, Jace Beleren and Nissa Revane. She helps to form the Sentinels, a group created to combat threats capable of destroying entire worlds. On Zendikar, her flames play a decisive role in the battle against the Eldrazi titans Ulamog and Kozilek.

Above all, Chandra champions individual freedom and everyone’s right to choose their own path. This conviction regularly brings her into conflict with authoritarian regimes and those who seek to control the Multiverse. Despite her fiery temperament, she remains deeply loyal to those close to her and is willing to risk her life to protect those she considers family.
