Character origin and backstory (Lore)

Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s most famous heroes. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, he first appeared in 1962 in Amazing Fantasy #15.

Behind the mask lies Peter Parker, a young man who gains superhuman abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider. In particular, he acquires exceptional strength and agility, the ability to cling to walls, and a sense of danger known as Spider-Sense.

Following the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter realises that his powers must be used responsibly. This realisation gives rise to one of the most famous philosophies in the Marvel universe: with great power comes great responsibility.

Over the decades, Spider-Man has faced numerous iconic adversaries such as the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Venom and the Lizard, whilst juggling his personal life with his duties as a superhero. This POP! Jumbo No. 1653 thus celebrates one of the most important and recognisable characters in the entire history of Marvel Comics.
