Character background and universe (Lore)

Lizard, whose real name is Dr Curt Connors, is one of Spider-Man’s recurring enemies in the Marvel comics. A brilliant scientist and biology specialist, Connors loses an arm and subsequently devotes himself to researching the ability of certain reptiles to regenerate their limbs.

His experiments lead to the creation of a serum capable of stimulating this regeneration. After testing it on himself, Connors does indeed manage to regrow his arm, but the treatment triggers an uncontrolled transformation that turns him into a powerful reptilian creature known as the Lizard.

In this form, he possesses strength, stamina and agility far superior to those of a human, as well as a long tail which he can use as a weapon. His intelligence can also be profoundly altered during his transformations, giving way to far more primitive instincts.

The duality between the scientist Curt Connors and the Lizard is one of the character’s most striking aspects. Spider-Man therefore regularly seeks not only to stop the monster, but also to save the man who remains behind this transformation.
