Character background and universe (Lore)

Venom is one of the most famous characters associated with the Spider-Man universe. Originally, the alien symbiote bonded with Peter Parker, providing him with a black suit capable of amplifying his abilities. When Peter realised the creature’s influence was becoming increasingly overbearing, he managed to rid himself of it.

The symbiote then finds a new host in Eddie Brock, a journalist who also harbours a deep grudge against Peter Parker. Their shared hatred gives rise to Venom, an adversary with powers comparable to those of Spider-Man, but enhanced by the symbiote’s alien nature.

Over the course of the comics, Venom gradually evolves from Spider-Man’s enemy into a far more ambiguous figure. Eddie Brock and his symbiote regularly become anti-heroes, capable of taking on criminals and far more dangerous threats, whilst retaining particularly brutal methods.

With his black-and-white appearance, his enormous tongue, his impressive fangs and his complex relationship with Spider-Man, Venom has become one of Marvel’s most recognisable characters and a central figure in the symbiote universe.
