Character background and lore

Shinobu Oshino is one of the central characters in the Monogatari series, written by Nisio Isin. Behind her appearance as a young blonde girl lies an extremely ancient and powerful vampire, formerly known as Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade.

Her story is closely intertwined with that of Koyomi Araragi, whose encounter with the vampire permanently transforms his life. Following the events that reshape their relationship, Shinobu loses much of her power and takes on a much younger appearance. She remains, however, bound to Araragi by a particularly strong supernatural bond.

Shinobu has a complex personality: often quiet or aloof, she can also be proud, mocking and surprisingly expressive. In particular, she develops a well-known fondness for doughnuts, an element that has become inseparable from her image amongst fans of the series.

Throughout the Monogatari series, her past, her true identity and her relationship with Araragi take on increasing importance.
