Discover MOSHOWTOYS’ first build-it-yourself model kit with the Great Han Huben – Kui Xiu Armour Set. This original mecha combines the imposing appearance of ancient China’s elite guards with a futuristic mechanical design, featuring numerous panels, joints and interchangeable armour elements.

The main model features the so-called ‘Jianbing’ configuration and stands approximately 23 cm tall once assembled. Its black, silver and red armour echoes the massive forms of traditional military armour, whilst the technical details, layered surfaces and exposed joints give it the look of a contemporary combat machine. A configuration fitted with the officer’s armour can reach approximately 26.5 cm, which explains the variations in dimensions found among different retailers.

The set includes two distinct armour sets: infantry armour and infantry colonel’s armour. These parts allow you to significantly alter the mecha’s silhouette, transforming it from a heavily armoured soldier into a more imposing command version. A dedicated display stand allows components not fitted to the main body to be displayed separately.

A set of weapons is included with the model to create different combat configurations. The kit also includes seven pairs of interchangeable hands, a light-up unit, a display stand, a flexible support arm and a sheet of decals to complete the markings and external details. The batteries required for the light-up system are not supplied.

The parts are made from ABS, PET and metal alloy. The inclusion of alloy components helps to reinforce certain parts of the structure, whilst the numerous joints allow for the reproduction of guard, command or combat poses despite the armour’s substantial bulk. The kit requires assembly and the use of suitable model-making tools.

Origin and background of the model (Lore)

The Great Han Huben draws its inspiration from the Huben, a term historically associated with the elite military guards tasked with protecting the Chinese imperial authority. Its name can be interpreted as that of a ‘tiger warrior’, an image evoking the strength, courage and discipline of a select combat unit.

The Kui Xiu armour, also transcribed as Kui Su, refers to one of the lunar mansions in traditional Chinese astronomy. It belongs to the celestial region associated with the White Tiger of the West, one of the four great symbols representing the cardinal directions, the seasons and various forces in Chinese cosmology.

The model kit’s design fuses these historical and celestial references with science-fiction technology. The overlapping plates evoke traditional military armour, whilst the internal structure, joints and mechanical panels transform the ancient warrior into a large-scale mecha.

More broadly, MOSHOWTOYS develops creations inspired by Chinese history, mythology and traditions. The brand presents its approach as a desire to tell Chinese stories through contemporary forms accessible to an international audience.

The two sets of armour included illustrate the concept’s military hierarchy. The infantry version presents the Great Han Huben as a heavy soldier, whilst the colonel configuration reinforces his stature as a commander through a taller and more imposing silhouette.

The Great Han Huben thus represents a fusion of the image of the imperial guard, the symbolism of the White Tiger and the aesthetic of a futuristic military robot.
