Character background and lore

Shoto Todoroki is one of the leading students in Class 1-A at Yuei High School, the institution responsible for training the next generation of professional heroes in the My Hero Academia universe.

He possesses a particularly powerful Quirk that allows him to use ice with the right half of his body and fire with the left half. This exceptional combination is a direct legacy from his parents and makes him one of the students with the greatest potential of his generation.

Shoto is the son of the professional hero Endeavour, whose ambition had a profound impact on his childhood. For a long time, Todoroki refused to use the fiery aspect of his Quirk, as he associated it with his father and the pressure he had placed on him.

His encounter – and, above all, his clash – with Izuku Midoriya at the Yuei Sports Festival marked a pivotal moment in his development. Deku encouraged Todoroki to view his fire not as Endeavour’s power, but as an ability that belongs entirely to him.

From that point on, Shoto gradually begins to accept both halves of his Alter and seeks to develop a truly personal fighting style, capable of combining cold and heat much more effectively.

This duality makes him an extremely versatile fighter. He can create vast quantities of ice to block, immobilise or alter the terrain, whilst his flames allow him to adopt a much more offensive approach.

Beyond his abilities, Shoto stands out for his calm, serious and generally reserved personality. His personal development nevertheless plays a significant role in the series, particularly through his complex relationship with Endeavour and the other members of the Todoroki family.

Shoto also appears amongst the heroes in *My Hero Academia: You’re Next*, the fourth film in the franchise. The official website confirms that Deku, Bakugo, Todoroki and the other Yuei students face off against Dark Might and the Gorrini Family criminal organisation in this story.
