Origin and world of the character
The character of Gaara comes from the famous manga Naruto ("Classic" period), written and drawn by Masashi Kishimoto, and its animated TV adaptation produced by the Pierrot studio from 2002. The story takes place in a feudal world where hidden villages train ninjas to ensure their defence and prosperity. Gaara is the son of the Fourth Kazekage of Suna, the Hidden Village of Sand. From birth, he was transformed into a receptacle (Jinchūriki) for the fearsome one-tailed demon, Shukaku, giving his body the unique ability to manipulate sand in an absolute manner. His 'Sand Armour' (Sunano Koromo) is an ultimate unconscious defensive technique that continuously covers his skin with a thin, ultra-resistant protective film, making him almost invulnerable to direct physical attacks in his first battles of the series.
