Sasuke Uchiwa is a character from the manga and anime series Naruto created by Masashi Kishimoto. He is a ninja from the village of Konoha with a calm and detached character, designed to be both partner and rival to the main character, Naruto Uzumaki. In the anime and manga, Sasuke is a member of the Uchiwa clan, a powerful clan in Konoha village. The members were exterminated when Sasuke was still a child by his older brother, Itachi. His only goal is to avenge the extermination of his clan, a task he will pursue at all costs. At first cold, solitary and only concerned by his revenge, he befriends other characters, notably Naruto with whom he forms a bond of rivalry and friendship, and Sakura Haruno, whom he despised at first but who gradually becomes a friend. All three learn the ninja arts under the authority of Kakashi Hatake. Dissatisfied with his progress, he deserts the village of Konoha to acquire the strength necessary for his revenge at the side of Orochimaru.
