Origin and character background (Lore)

Tony Tony Chopper is a blue-nosed reindeer who gained human abilities after eating the Human-Human Fruit. Rejected by both reindeer and humans, he is taken in by Dr Hiluluk, who gives him his name, his hat and the desire to become a doctor. He then continues his training under Dr Kureha.

After meeting Monkey D. Luffy, Chopper joins the Straw Hat crew as their ship’s doctor. He dreams of becoming a practitioner capable of curing all illnesses and uses the transformations granted by his Devil Fruit to protect his companions when a fight becomes inevitable. In the Netflix adaptation, he retains his appearance as a young humanoid reindeer, his large pink hat and his role as the crew’s doctor.
