Add one of the Hero Association’s most powerful heroines to your collection with this POP! Animation figure No. 2528 featuring Terrible Tornado, also known as Tatsumaki. Designed by Funko, this version depicts the formidable esper in a calm yet commanding pose, as if she were observing an opponent she does not yet consider worthy of her attention.

Terrible Tornado is instantly recognisable by her luxuriant emerald-green hair. Wide, wavy strands frame her face and curl outwards, creating a dynamic silhouette reminiscent of the movements produced by her psychic powers.

Her dark green eyes, long eyelashes and slanted eyebrows give her a stern expression. Her deliberately impassive face reflects her impatient temperament and the absolute confidence she has in her own abilities.

The figurine features her long, black, long-sleeved dress. The garment has a high collar, a deep front slit and several narrow panels that appear to float around her legs. This sense of movement evokes Tatsumaki’s constant levitation and the currents of energy that accompany the use of her powers.

Her arms are crossed over her chest in a closed, confident stance. She also wears black shoes with small heels. A transparent support attached to her back connects the figure to a circular grey plinth, giving the impression that she is floating slightly above the base.

Character’s origin and backstory (Lore)

Tatsumaki, known by her hero name Terrible Tornado, is an esper with exceptional psychic abilities. She ranks second in Class S within the Heroes’ Association, just behind Blast. VIZ explains that her Japanese nickname combines the idea of terror with the word ‘tornado’ and presents her as one of the organisation’s most powerful figures.

Her powers enable her to move gigantic objects, lift buildings, create protective barriers and hurl her opponents great distances. She can also fly and keep several people or structures suspended in the air simultaneously.

Tatsumaki’s power is such that she is primarily called upon to deal with threats that are beyond the capabilities of ordinary heroes. Her attitude reflects this superiority: impatient and authoritarian, she has little patience for those she considers weak or incompetent.

Her appearance deliberately creates a contrast with this level of power. Her small stature and youthful features sometimes lead other characters to mistake her for a child, a mistake she finds very hard to tolerate.

Tatsumaki is the elder sister of Fubuki, also known as Infernal Blizzard. Both women possess psychic powers, but Tatsumaki operates at a far higher level. This difference has profoundly shaped their relationship and contributed to Fubuki’s inferiority complex.

Despite her tough demeanour, Tatsumaki seeks to protect her sister. However, this desire often takes an excessive form: she believes that Fubuki should stay out of dangerous situations and is wary of the bonds Fubuki forms with other heroes.

Her past partly explains this attitude. As a child, Tatsumaki was held captive in a research centre where her powers were subjected to experiments. She was rescued by Blast, who advised her never to wait for someone else to come to her aid.

Tatsumaki interprets this lesson in a radical way. She has developed an almost absolute independence and believes that personal strength is the only true protection. This conviction fuels both her effectiveness in combat, her isolation and her refusal to trust others.

During the offensive against the Monster Association, she faced off against Gyoro-Gyoro and Psychos, amongst others, in a psychic battle of considerable magnitude. VIZ presents this confrontation as a major supernatural struggle during which Tatsumaki rescues the scattered heroes before unleashing an attack capable of warping the city.

Her defensive abilities are just as significant as her offensive power. Even when seriously injured, she continues to maintain barriers, protect her allies and contain opponents capable of causing a city-wide catastrophe.

Her relationship with Saitama is characterised by mutual misunderstanding. Tatsumaki initially regards this low-ranked hero as an insignificant figure, whilst Saitama remains almost entirely indifferent to her rank and authority. Their confrontation highlights the esper’s frustration when she encounters someone she cannot easily move or intimidate.

The pose chosen for this POP! figure sums up her character. With her arms crossed, her eyes closed and her dress billowing around her, she is portrayed as a heroine who has no need to adopt a traditional fighting stance: her sheer will alone is enough to lift the scenery, immobilise an opponent or unleash a veritable psychic tornado.
